Hustled from train to bus
There, next to her, an empty seat.
She nodded approval of my occupying its emptiness.
Her stout frame amply filled the seat's corner.

I, long, white and lank
Appeared as if from a different world,
Brown hat, sunglasses, blue eyes, white skin.
She, dark, short, hair tinged with grey, teeth missing.
Still, she smiled and nodded.
